Sherry Niessen is a Senior Director at Belharra Therapeutics in San Diego, CA. Sherry has worked in small molecule drug discovery for more than 8 years focused in oncology. She earned a B.S. in Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University in 2000, a M.Sc. in Experimental Medicine at McGill University and a Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Chemical Physiology from the Scripps Research Institute. During her Ph.D she applied advanced proteomic and metabolomic approaches to cell and animal models in oncology to identify several serine hydrolase enzymes dysregulated in human cancer including KIAA1363. After graduating she worked with chemical biology and proteomics expert faculty from TSRI to establish a dynamic chemical proteomics center bridging chemical biology and proteomics where she stayed for four years and later joined the Tumor Cell Biology department as a chemical biology team leader at Pfizer in La Jolla . Sherry is a member of the ICBS community and looks forward to new interactions across academia and industry that the community supports.
