Dr Phillip Patrick Sharp (Pat) obtained his BSc (Hons 1st) and PhD in organic synthesis at The Australian National University (ANU) with Prof. Martin Banwell. He subsequently undertook postdoctoral research at both the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (with Dr Chris Burns) and the University of California San Francisco (with Prof. Jack Taunton), before joining Merck Research Laboratories as a Senior Scientist, where his research spanned target validation, medicinal chemistry and lead optimization for cardiometabolic disease drug candidates to development of new modalities for oncology. Pat is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Gate Biosciences, a biotechnology company focused on the development of inhibitors of protein biogenesis.
