The Medicinal Chemistry Center at UW-Madison opened July 1, 2015 and has completed a very successful and productive first year of providing synthetic chemistry solutions to a broad variety of drug discovery projects from across the UW-Madison campus and from external clients.  Under the guidance of three UW faculty, Weiping Tang, Jennifer Golden and Michael Hoffmann, the staff of three chemists led by John Feltenberger, Assistant Director of the Center, have produced dozens of new compounds and provided them back to research laboratories for testing in biological assays on target proteins, cells or animal models of disease.  The projects span a spectrum of therapeutic areas including metabolic disease, cancer and infectious disease. The Medicinal Chemistry Center is a major addition to the drug discovery and development infrastructure at UW-Madison that also includes the Small Molecule Screening Facility. The Medicinal Chemistry Center is maintaining the long tradition of research excellence at the intersection of chemistry and biology at UW-Madison. In recognition of this research excellence, The International Chemical Biology Society has chosen UW-Madison to host its 2016 meeting "Translational Chemical Biology-ICBS2016".
